Jerry Lundgren began to create a website about the area where he grew up, namely Swede Bend, Iowa. Special attention was devoted to the first Swedes who, after an arduous journey in 1849 settled in Hardin Township, Webster County. These people's life stories are portrayed in the book that Jerry and I wrote to the 160-year anniversary of their arrival in 1849. Jerry's own relatives emigrated from Åmot in Gästrikland 1868 and settled in Swede Bend. Now there are no descendants remaining there, but the name Lundgren is found on many gravestones in Hardin Township cemetery. Unfortunately Jerry did not quite complete his website before he passed away in May 2012, but there is still much to read there about how the area developed from the mid 1800s onwards.
